The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) recently signed several agreements such as Technology Transfer (ToT), Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with regard to the commercialization of technology developed under the National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET). The signing ceremony was held at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi, and MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan led the initiative, stressing the need for self-reliant technological progress in power electronics.
One of the main highlights was technology transfer for an indigenous 1.5kW wireless charger, developed in collaboration by C-DAC (Thiruvananthapuram) and VNIT Nagpur. This charger is now licensed to M/s Global Business Solution Pvt. Ltd., is driven off a 230V, 50Hz AC single-phase supply and charges a 4.8kWh onboard battery pack to 48V/30A in approximately three hours with up to 89.4% efficiency at coil spacings of 7.5 to 12.5 cm.
Another important collaboration is the MoA among C-DAC, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), and industry partners to create an indigenously designed propulsion system for 3-phase electric locomotives. This system—vital to the Indian Railways' vision of complete electrification by 2030 consists of two 2.5 MVA Traction Converters, three 130 kVA Auxiliary Converters, and an enhanced Train Control and Management System (TCMS). Industry partners M/s Daulat Ram Engineering Services Pvt Ltd (Bhopal), M/s JMV LPS Ltd (Noida), and M/s Electro-waves Electronics Pvt Ltd (Himachal Pradesh) will spearhead the testing, product engineering, and field validation process to establish organized industry acceptance.
Further, a MoU was signed between C-DAC and the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) for deploying 48V Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) systems as part of green and sustainable grid solutions. This system, designed under NaMPET and already implemented at K-DISC headquarters, has the potential to save energy by 20–30%, helping Kerala's Carbon Neutrality Roadmap 2050 and India's Net Zero 2070 commitment.
